Mr. Ulrich Rosendahl is a distinguished consultant cardiac surgeon with a profound legacy in the field. Mr. Rosendahl is Chief of Aortovascular service at Royal Brompton Hospital since 2012. Renowned for his clinical expertise and surgical precision, he has performed over 7,000 open heart operations during his 35-year career, significantly impacting thousands of patients' lives. Mr. Rosendahl's medical journey commenced at the University of Munster, Germany.

 

 His pursuit of excellence in heart surgery led him to the Texas Heart Institute, USA, where he was trained under Dr. Denton Cooley, a pioneer in cardiac surgery. Having accomplished his training in General and Vascular Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa under Professor Joahnnes Myburgh; he finished his training at the German Heart Centre in Berlin. He later served as a senior consultant at the Heart Centre in Lahr, Germany. His surgical repertoire is extensive, specialising in high-risk and complex heart operations. He is proficient in aortic disease treatment, heart valve surgeries including aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve repair and has 30 years of experience for innovative 'David' and 'Yacoub' procedures. In patients with structural or functional mitral valve regurgitation, he offers mitral valve repair with remarkable success rate of 99%. His skills also encompass complex reoperations of the heart and aorta, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and surgeries for patients with connective tissue disorders. As a lead surgeon of the Cardio-Oncology team at Royal Brompton Hospital; his expertise in Cardio-Oncology (removal/resection of malignant and non-malignant cardiac tumours) has established RBH a referral centre all over UK. Notably, Mr. Rosendahl is also an adept practitioner of minimally invasive heart surgery techniques, expanding his ability to cater to a broader range of patient needs. 

 

Complementing his clinical duties, Mr. Rosendahl is engaged in academia and research. He holds a research post in the National Institute of Health Research's biomedical research unit and serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. His contribution to the field is further evidenced by over 200 published research findings, underscoring his commitment to advancing cardiac care. His expertise is regularly sought at national and international conferences, where he shares his knowledge and experiences in cardiac surgery.
