Mr. Toufan Bahrami is a distinguished Consultant Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgeon at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital, UK since 2002. With an exemplary academic foundation from the University of Pitie-Salpetriere, Paris and trained by Pr Carpentier, he has been pivotal in developing programs for minimally invasive and endoscopic cardiac procedures at Brompton and Harefield hospitals. Leading the Minimally invasive mitral valve program at Harefield, he is mentoring consultants, engaging in management courses, and collaborating with hospital management to improve patient care. He has a specialised interest in mitral and tricuspid valve repair, aortic valve/root surgeries, and complex cardiac surgeries including redo off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). His commitment to minimally invasive approaches is reflected by a remarkable 100% repair rate and 0% mortality in first-time isolated degenerative mitral valve repairs and longstanding zero conversion rate in off-pump CABG since 2001. As a pioneer in the field of heart and lung transplantation, Mr Bahrami has been a key figure in advancing mechanical circulatory support. His involvement in the first UK non-heartbeating lung transplant marks him as a leading innovator in transplant surgery. His contributions have significantly improved patient outcomes and have been integral in VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) research.
Mr Bahrami's academic contributions are equally notable, with extensive research in cardiac and mitral valve surgery published in peer-reviewed journals. His pioneering clinical research has influenced modern surgical techniques, enhancing the practice of cardiac surgery.
Mr. Bahrami's ambition is to establish international leadership in his field. He is driving innovations in endoscopic valve surgery, atrial fibrillation ablation, and left atrial appendage exclusion, and is at the forefront of robotic surgery for coronary artery bypass and mitral valve surgery.
